What books should I choose for my child

Did you know that older books with rhymes or rhyming words are excellent to develop skills for reading with young children and poetry memorization for older children. Yes the old fashion way works in ways you don’t realize. It develops memory for information especially new information in the classroom. It develops an awareness of sounds in words as individual sounds and it teaches the code of our language. Language of course is what we study in school. We study our language for years in order to be able to speak, write, and read it with great proficiency. We need a handle on the language to express our cognitive mental ideas, our intelligence! Read some Dr. Suess books to your child…all of them. Poetry for children. Ask your in person librarian for suggestions!
